A Little Smile

Taryn smiles at me. She's not even
three months old and she looks me in
the face and gives me big toothless
grins. It's completely intoxicating.
She adds a few goo-goos and I am
totally smitten.

The only problem is that she doesn't
do that for her mom and I think it's
starting to bug Sharon. I don't know
what to tell her. If there is one person
that can calm Taryn down its Sharon.
When Taryn fusses and I try to calm
her down it only works if I put her in
her electric swing. Sharon won't let me
call it "the electric chair" which is very dark but funny. I admit it is a little out of line. =)

I told Sharon that once I saw
documentary that explained that an
infant will study her mother's face ten
times more than anybody else's. So
I figure that Taryn is concentrating
on that and doesn't time to think
about how she is interacting with
Sharon.

It's probably because I have a big head
and my cheaks reflect more light,
which is easier for her blurry vision
to see and respond to. There you go.
If you don't want chubby cheaks then
you give up goo-goo smiles with babies.
That seems pretty straight forward.

Or maybe Taryn just likes me more.
No. That can't be it. =)

UPDATE: Last night Taryn did her

big smile routine for Sharon while on

the changing table. A crisis was averted.

The no-smiling-barely-interacting facet of babyhood was the one thing which was most maddening to Cath during the first few months with Joanna. David: not so much becasue we expected it.

Good news on the update, though. Those first smiles and playtime are like gold.
